Carolina Horizons

June 21 - June 24

Carolina Horizons Program Description:

Carolina Horizons is a four day “crash course” that prepares students for the college application process. From June 21st-24th students will learn about Carolina and establish personal relationships with college admission representatives in the UNC System. This program seeks to increase access to higher education and is designed to limit the financial burden of students who desire to participate in our program. Thus, the students are not required to pay for program expenses. However, we do ask that students are able to arrange their own travel to and from campus.

At Carolina Horizons students will:

Experience living in a dorm on campus and eating in the dining hall

Begin filling out the NC Common Application
Receive tips on writing college essays
Start writing a college essay and receive feedback from admissions and college advisors
Gain communication skills necessary when engaging with admission representatives and requesting letters of recommendation.
Network with multiple admissions counselors from various universities across the state
Eligibility: American Indian rising high school juniors and seniors, with priority given to rising seniors

Over that past eight years, approximately 225 American Indian students have participated in Carolina Horizons. This year, we are excited and look forward to a new cohort of students experiencing Carolina Horizons.

If you or any students have any questions about this program or need help navigating the application process once it opens, please let our Native Student Engagement Coordinator, Qua Lynch Adkins, know. She will be happy to assist you. Feel free to contact Qua by email at qua.lynch@unc.edu or by phone at 919-843-5928.
